"Artificial Intelligence is central to the ongoing global technological transformation, and for Zimbabwe, it is critical to our modernization, industrialization, and sustainable socio-economic growth," he said.
The strategy outlines five flagship initiatives, including the Zimbabwe AI Grand Challenge, a national competition to drive innovation and generate AI-driven solutions to pressing national challenges; the National AI and Data Platform, which provides centralized access to data and computational resources for researchers and innovators; the "Nzwisiso" National Literacy Campaign, aimed at educating citizens about the opportunities and risks of AI; the National AI Regulatory Sandbox, a safe testing space for start-ups and researchers developing AI applications; and the National AI Innovation Fund, which will provide capital for AI-focused start-ups and research projects.
Zimbabwe's National AI Strategy aims to bridge the urban-rural divide by promoting AI adoption in key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education. The strategy emphasizes the importance of developing local AI capabilities and promoting innovation, with a focus on addressing local challenges.
