PLZ Honors Goromonzi Police for Swift Action in Addressing Robbery Incidents at Arcadia Mine

GOROMONZI, ZIMBABWE — In a commendable initiative to acknowledge exemplary law enforcement, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) has awarded officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Goromonzi Station for their rapid and effective response to a troubling wave of robberies targeting Chinese nationals at the Arcadia Mine.

 The surge in criminal activity, which began in May 2025, involved five ambushes of Chinese nationals near the Arcadia Technology Zimbabwe Lithium Salt Project. Despite initial challenges in capturing the culprits, the collaboration between Re-orient Security and the ZRP ultimately led to the apprehension of four suspects. This joint investigation not only yielded confessions but also resulted in the recovery of mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings.

Assistant Inspector Jani, the Acting Officer-In-Charge of Goromonzi, articulated how the alarming reports of repeated robberies necessitated a collaborative approach with Re-Orient team. "Our partnership with Re-Orient Security a local security company was crucial. Through our investigations, we arrested two suspects and recovered stolen items, including five cellphones and a Motorola radio, subsequently bringing the accused to court. In recognition of their exceptional service, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe has honored our officers for their dedication," stated Assistant Inspector Jani.

 To celebrate the professionalism and swift actions of the involved officers, PLZ organized a special ceremony. Awards were presented to those integral to the investigation and the apprehension of the suspects, with each officer receiving a certificate of commendation alongside a food hamper, symbolizing the company’s gratitude for their service.

Yu Long, PLZ’s ESG Director, praised the officers, asserting, "We commend the authorities for their unwavering commitment to combating crime and maintaining public order. Their decisive actions have significantly contributed to restoring safety and peace in our operational environment further amplifing the ambience of safety to investors in the country and those that wish to invest in Zimbabwe."

The officer in charge highlighted how this acknowledgment has further motivated the team, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding the community.

Chief Superintendent Gumbo of DISPOL Marondera emphasized the importance of cooperation and community trust in effective crime fighting. "Criminals share intelligence among themselves, and it is imperative that we, as police, draw on our strengths and integrity. Knowing that the community appreciates our work enhances our commitment. PLZ’s establishment of a base at Lonely Park for police operations is commendable, and we are dedicated to ensuring the community’s security," remarked Chief Superintendent Gumbo.
