Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe Honors Industry Leaders at Annual Excellence Awards

HARARE, Zimbabwe – In a high-profile ceremony underscoring the sector's commitment to professionalism, the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) recently honored over two dozen industry leaders, recognizing achievements in innovation, risk management, and claims excellence. The awards spotlight the critical human capital driving resilience and growth in Zimbabwe's financial services landscape.

The prestigious title of Insurance Executive of the Year 2025 was awarded to Sibongile Marufu of Grand Reinsurance Company. The top honor of Distinguished Insurance Professional of the Year 2025 was jointly conferred upon Matipedza Lole of FBC Health and Immaculate Musonza of Old Mutual Insurance Company, with Lole also recognized for Continuous Professional Development.

Awards across key technical disciplines highlighted operational excellence. Gilbert Mwanza of Econet Life was named Long Term Claims Professional of the Year, while Kaylyn Mutigwa of Grand Re won Short Term Claims Professional of the Year 2025. In risk management, Alton Mazvarirwofa of Old Mutual took the top prize, with runners-up from WAICA Re and Global Risk Management Consultancy Group.

The IIZ placed significant emphasis on future-facing skills. The Innovation & Market Development award went to Munyaradzi Madotsa of Moonlight Funeral Assurance, reflecting product evolution in response to market needs. The Young Rising Star of the Year 2025Mathende Malcolm Tanyaradzwa of MountSentry Microinsurance, and Learning Professional of the YearRuth Gunda of TransAxis, underscore the institute's focus on nurturing next-generation talent and continuous education.

In a move celebrating institutional memory and foundational leadership, the IIZ conferred a special Legacy Leadership Recognition upon six industry pillars: Philip Mataranyika, Dr. Grace Muradzikwa, Gloria Zvaravanhu, Dr. Talent Maziwisa, Wadzanayi Phiri, and Douglas Hoto.

The awards ceremony, a flagship event for the IIZ, serves to benchmark professional standards and reinforce the ethical and technical pillars essential for maintaining public trust in the insurance industry.
