The long-awaited, inaugural She Connects Beauty, Wellness, and Lifestyle Conference and Expo officially opened today at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), marking a historic milestone as Zimbabwe's first-ever national platform dedicated exclusively to women building industries in the lifestyle sector.
Addressing a packed auditorium of over 200 women founders, practitioners, and global delegates, event visionary Lurydis Rukudzo Bingandadi welcomed the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, who presided over the landmark summit as the Guest of Honour. The launch signals a formal turning point for the local beauty and wellness economy, transitioning it from fragmented, small-scale operations into a recognized socioeconomic powerhouse.
The path to the historic launch was marked by significant logistical hurdles, with organizers revealing that the convention was originally scheduled for a different venue in July. Despite abrupt changes to both the timeline and location, corporate sponsors, exhibitors, and delegates retained their bookings—a resilience that Bingandadi described as undeniable proof of the market's urgent need for institutional representation.
For decades, women pioneering local skincare, wellness, and lifestyle brands have operated in silos without collective bargaining power or structured corporate visibility. The She Connects expo has effectively broken this isolation, bringing grassroots female manufacturers and service providers into the same room as top-tier state regulators, corporate financiers, and commercial buyers for the first time in the nation's history.
Drawing from her own journey, Bingandadi shared that her drive to build this infrastructure came from spending eight years in the diaspora before returning home to navigate the steep challenges of building a business from the ground up. She emphasized that the platform was intentionally designed from personal experience to help emerging founders bypass traditional systemic barriers to market entry.
Moving beyond standard inspirational rhetoric, the high-stakes conference was structured to deliver immediate corporate infrastructure and legal capacity building to attendees. Specialized legal masterclasses were rolled out to teach women how to formally protect their intellectual property, secure their operational legacies, and legally shield their assets as they scale.
Financial literacy and aggressive market expansion took center stage during the flagship panel session, "Money. Brand. Empire." The administrative masterclass provided raw, actionable insights from veteran corporate leaders on how to transform home-grown beauty formulas into structured, investable corporate entities capable of securing institutional credit lines.
In tandem with commercial growth, the summit introduced a critical focus on executive health, mental health, and occupational wellness. Recognizing the high burnout rates among self-starting female founders, top medical and wellness experts led dedicated panels to equip entrepreneurs with practical tools to manage corporate stress and prioritize sustainable mental health.
A major highlight of the day was the official launch of the innovative Girls Hackathon, running under the global campaign banner #BuildToExport. The targeted technological initiative focuses on training the next generation of young women to build digital business models designed from inception to export Zimbabwean wellness products to international markets.
The summit concluded its opening day with an aggressive call for strategic B2B networking, urging delegates to move past casual attendance and actively trade commercial contacts. With strong institutional backing from the Ministry of Women Affairs, She Connects has established a permanent home for the lifestyle economy, laying down a highly organized network destined to reshape Zimbabwe's private sector.
