HARARE – A new economic chapter unfolded for Zimbabwe’s lifestyle sector today as the inaugural She Connects Beauty, Wellness, and Lifestyle Conference and Expo officially commenced, uniting over 200 female entrepreneurs, industry practitioners, and policymakers under one roof.
The groundbreaking event opened with high-level institutional backing, featuring an address by the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, who attended as the Guest of Honour. The ministry's early endorsement of the project highlights a growing government commitment to formalising and scaling women-led businesses within the multi-billion-dollar global wellness economy.
The road to the historic summit required navigating immense logistical challenges, including an eleventh-hour overhaul of the event’s entire timeline and location. Originally slated for July at a different venue, the organizers were forced to adjust schedules, yet retained 100% compliance from exhibitors, speakers, and delegates who rebooked their itineraries to attend.
In her opening remarks, event founder Lurydis Rukudzo Bingandadi noted that this absolute retention rate proved the platform was a matter of necessity rather than luxury. She highlighted that local women driving the skincare, wellness, and lifestyle sectors have long been building their enterprises in isolation, disconnected from corporate supply chains and state regulatory frameworks.
Bingandadi, who spent eight years working in the diaspora before returning home to manufacture locally, stated that her experience knocking on closed corporate doors shaped the architecture of the event. The platform was deliberately designed to move past traditional corporate slogans and offer real, ground-level relief to emerging founders navigating the local business ecosystem.
Rejecting standard theoretical presentations, day one of the convention focused heavily on providing immediate corporate infrastructure. A dedicated legal masterclass was introduced to equip female practitioners with the tools needed to navigate copyright laws, register trademarks, and legally protect their operational legacies.
The commercial narrative deepened during the highly anticipated "Money. Brand. Empire." panel discussion. The session brought together seasoned financial experts and veteran brand strategists who provided actionable blueprints on how to transition micro-enterprises into highly structured, bankable corporate entities capable of driving regional trade.
Recognising that operational burnout is a critical threat to business continuity, the summit also featured a vital executive wellness track. Leading medical and mental health experts took the stage to address the psychological toll of entrepreneurship, instructing founders on how to maintain physical and mental health while managing high-growth companies.
Youth tech-inclusion took center stage with the launch of the innovative Girls Hackathon, running under the strategic theme #BuildToExport. This specialized division challenges the next generation of young female tech-innovators to build digital applications and logistics pipelines that can seamlessly push Zimbabwean-made beauty products into global markets.
The opening day concluded with a direct challenge to all attendees to utilise the space for aggressive B2B networking and immediate contract trading. With institutional support now locked in, She Connects has effectively established a permanent commercial home for an industry that will now grow more organised, vocal, and financially potent every year.
